Heterosexual couple win right to a Civil Partnership

The Supreme Court today handed down a Judgement which will open up Civil Partnerships to heterosexual couples who want a legal union but do not want to get married. The Civil Partnership Act 2004 only applied to same sex couples which resulted in discrimination of heterosexual couples. The Court agreed that the couple, who brought the case, had established a potential violation of Article 14 of the European Convention of Human Rights which relates to discrimination along with Article 8 which related to the right to a private and family life.
