Dog Law
We are dog lovers at Garden House and have our own dog, Puppy Russell who is a Jack Russell Terrier, he has met many of the clients and they all love him.
There are many legal problems that can arise in the ownership of a dog.
Breed specific legislation was introduced as part of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and this restricts the ownership of certain breeds of dogs that are considered to be dangerous. The dogs affected by this legislation are pit bull terriers, Japanese Tosas, Dogo Argentio and Fila Braziliero.
Unfortunately, if the Police suspect that your dog is one of the banned breeds your dog will be seized and taken to kennels until an assessment is carried out. Sadly these assessments can take months, and sometimes years and dogs become very distressed at the separation from their owners. Sadly many dogs are destroyed unnecessarily because of mistakes being made about their breed.
If your dog has attacked or bitten someone or if you have been charged with an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act., we have expertise to ensure that your dog is properly and quickly assessed so that you are not separated for lengthy periods of time, we can also assist you with any offences that you have been charged with in relation to ownership of your dog.
