Are you entitled to a Power of Attorney refund?
Over a million people are entitled to claim a refund in respect of fees paid to the Office of the Public Guardian for registering Lasting Powers of Attorney or Enduring Powers of Attorney between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017. The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) overcharged by £89 million of which £77 million remains unclaimed.
If you registered a Power of Attorney on behalf of a family member between 2013 and 2017 you are entitled to claim a refund of £54 for each document.
Making a claim is quick and simple by following this link https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney-refund
Only one form needs to be completed for each donor and the OPG will then locate all fees paid by that donor during the qualifying period.
The Government has placed a time limit of 1st February 2021 on applying for a refund, so potentially millions of families will miss out so please spread the word.
