If you’ve been thinking about setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), now is the perfect time to act.
From 17th November 2025, the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) will increase the registration fee for an LPA from £82 to £92 per application. That means acting now could save you money and give you peace of mind knowing your future wishes are protected.
What Is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)?
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that lets you appoint one or more trusted people (known as attorneys) to make decisions on your behalf if you lose capacity or are unable to manage your affairs.
There are two main types of LPA:
1. Property and Financial Affairs LPA
Allows your attorney to handle your finances, property and bills. Examples include managing your bank accounts, paying your mortgage or selling your home if necessary.
2. Health and Welfare LPA
Gives your attorney the authority to make decisions about your health, care and medical treatment, including where you live and the type of care you receive.
Setting up both types of LPAs ensures your financial and personal welfare are fully protected.
